When you enter the amazing historic walls of Miami Senior High, you can see all the art, but the thing that catches your eyes the most is the amount of spirit this school has! But where does this spirit come from? you ask. CLUBS!

The vast majority of the kids at Miami Senior High are in various clubs and the minute you walk in, you have people telling you, “Join BETA “, “Join Honoria”, “Join Interact or Key!” Most of those clubs are super well-known but there are some lurking in the shadows waiting to come up and surprise you with their amazing spirit!

 Intouch

Intouch is an interest club at Miami High, solely focused on bringing mental health issues to light and normalizing getting help from professionals in today’s world. Intouch President Faith Garcia said, “We provide an open space to help people be aware of what is going on in their brain and help people be more prone to reaching out.”

Intouch member Jaiden Montoya said, “This club invites motivational speakers to come and open up about their mental health past to a crowd of students who could use motivation to find help.”

Fun fact, according to club sponsor Ms. Luberto, Intouch is the only mental health awareness club in the entire school district. An alumnus of class of 2022, Jose Caballero, made a groundbreaking impact by adding this wonderful and necessary club to this school. Intouch does NOT participate in homecoming since it is an organization. Regardless, all of the officers do participate in their own clubs.

 LLHS

The Law and Leadership Honor Society (LLHS) is another amazing club that is connected to Miami High’s Law Magnet. Most magnet students that are truly into the law field join this club which gives them a place to discuss political plans and legal issues. This club also does community services. For example, they have this service going on called, “Suit Up Stings” where the club collects any kind of formal business clothing like blazers and pants for students to borrow for special occasions such as interviews.

The minimum GPA needed for this club is a 3.00 unweighted and you do not have to be in the law magnet to join! LLHS was founded in 2015 by Ms. Suarez, who is also back teaching at Miami Senior High.
LLHS is participating in homecoming in the alliance with SNHS, EHS, NHS, and MU APLHA THETA. Their theme this year is Voldemort. Current LLHS advisor Ms. Perez, a social studies teacher, said “It’s a great place if you have interests in law and politics and it’s also like a small family, where you get to meet other students with the same interests. You also get to meet professionals in law.”

 Thespians

Thespians is a remarkable drama club that brings joy to those who love acting and dream of starring on Broadway. This club is not only an interest club but is an honor society as well. The Thespians offer a safe place for kids to express their love for acting in an otherwise boring school day. Thespians go on competitions as well as do school productions like the winter show and the spring showcase.

These fantastic drama kids also participate in homecoming in an alliance with choir called the Musical Theater Alliance. “We are super excited. We do a float and a dance, and we got the queen of hearts!” said Thespian advisor Ms. Fernandez. “This year we have a much larger group!”

Ms. Fernandez herself studied theater in both her middle and high school years. Theater has always been a part of her life and she felt like she had to give back so now she not only teaches theater, but also is advisor of this very talented club.

Drama might not fall into everyone’s interests, but if you like it even a little bit, it will help you expand your interest in performing.

 FEA

FEA, also known as Future Educators of America, is a club that is affiliated with the teaching magnet and also involves the Baby Stings daycare center at Miami High. This club allows kids to explore the field of education and see if that’s what they are interested in. FEA Historian Moira Castillo said that the club made her feel welcome and very respected.
FEA advisor Ms. Rodriguez said, “We are participating in homecoming this year.  The theme was a little challenging especially since we incorporate the Baby Stings, but we are teachers. We make magic happen so we are going to make it work.”

Aside from gaining experience in teaching and gathering the skills they need to become a successful teacher, joining FEA takes you to competitions at state level, which is actually in November.

   WOT

WOT, also known as Women of Tomorrow, is a women empowerment interest club. It is an impactful organization focused on giving women a louder voice. This is also a club that participates in homecoming and, WOT advisor Ms. Turner said her officers are super excited!

“We are the greatest women organization in the school,” said Ms. Turner. “All the girls should join!” Ms. Turner admires giving women confidence. She said that empowering young girls is the best part of her job.

WOT 2nd VP Aliezner Lopez-Mendoza said, “I really like being in this club and everyone is so nice and so welcoming. ” Allie wanted to help bring more WOT representation to the school, and WOT was seen at the club fair this year with their amazing club colors pink and black.
