Luis Altahona is a very bright student with an amazing future ahead of him. He’s the sophomore class president and a BETA club member. Luis has many extracurriculars and interests that will surprise you.
Luis’ Upbringing
Luis became sophomore president right before his freshman year ended. Why? Because he wanted to provide a better school year for his classmates.
His genuine love for being better for the people started on freshmen board last year where his sponsor Ms. Suarez inspired him to use his voice to help people. Luis says, “Ms. Suarez has been more of a role model to me than just a teacher.”
The process to becoming sophomore president required many hours in freshmen board, events, and meetings but that was not enough for Luis to give up. After a while, his patience improved. As class president, his favorite things consist of being involved with his school and meeting new people.
Luis’ Interests
Luis has a variety of interests and extracurricular activities. He plays basketball and soccer sometimes with friends, and he also likes watching basketball games. He is also a gamer, playing games such as Minecraft, 2K, Fortnite, Rainbow 6 Siege, and Roblox.
Luis’ favorite thing to do is hang out with friends, go out to new places, explore, and play video games. Luis also is an important member of BETA, managing many operations in it, arranging meetings, and organizing pep rallies.
Luis’ Background
Luis is a Hispanic/Latino from Colombia. He says that Colombian culture consists of loud parties and many family gatherings. He was born in Colombia and came to America when he was a child, attending Silver Bluff Elementary and then Shenandoah Middle School. Luis was more of a quiet, introverted kid a couple of years ago, but now he is more extroverted and loves school.
Luis’ Future
Luis has a bright future ahead of him, we all know that, but does he know that? Absolutely. Luis has already decided as president that he will be an amazing role model for the students of Miami High and get others involved.
He says, “They will need to be as dedicated as I am to this school and as responsible.” His passion for this school is very remarkable. He puts an abundance of time into making the school better. Luis spends his time coming to the school on weekends and staying after school on the weekdays.
His dream job is to be a civil engineer, and he wants to study at either University of Florida (UF), University of Miami (UM), Florida International University (FIU), Florida State University (FSU), or Duke. “I see myself being a very wealthy man in the sense of health, family, and peace,” said Luis Altahona, sophomore president at Miami High School.
