Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri, better known as Luis Miguel, a famous Mexican singer also referred as “El sol de Mexico”, or the sun of Mexico, is an icon that has paved the way for future Spanish music.
In Mexico, Luis Miguel is a man who needs no introduction. He is a man with a powerful and dramatic voice which made all his songs iconic. According to his profile on the Totalisimo website, Luis Miguel has recorded over 33 timeless albums and won the hearts and minds of all Latin America. He has sold 100 million copies of his albums worldwide and is a 6-time Grammy and 6-time Latin Grammy winner.
His Totalisimo profile also reports Luis Miguel started his career at the young age of 11 in 1982. At the age of 14 he already had a Grammy just to show how successful he started.
What propelled his grand fame was his song “Ahora te puedes marchar” in the album Soy Como Quiero Ser in 1987 released when he was just 17 as he started to work solely with the legendary songwriter Juan Carlos Calderon in an album where he adapted English songs to Spanish. Later, releasing arguably the most trending album as of now, Romance with songs like “La Mentira” and “Inolvidable” an album where Luis Miguel revived the Bolero genre of music covering songs from as old as the 40s rejuvenating an entire genre. Bolero isn’t the only genre he dominated, breaking records with Mariachi, pop, and ballads and jazz.
Contrary to popular demand Luis Miguel has never released an album in English refusing to change with the times which encapsulates what he sings, just how his songs have stood the test of time.

My personal favorite albums
Although I love to listen to almost every album he’s ever released to the point of even going to his concert tour in 2024, there are a few that I especially love. Romance (1991) and Segundo Romance (1994) and Busca una mujer (1988) are my top three favorite albums. These albums display a level of romance, melancholy and with poetic and relatable lyrics that make them my favorite three albums of Luis Miguel’s discography.
