Things you might not know about abortion:
- Abortion in some states is illegal.
- You need to have a legal guardian sign papers to have an abortion.
- Getting an abortion can affect your possibilities of having a child later in life even though the possibilities are very low.
- Women who have abortion can go through various emotions like grief, guilt, relief, and anxiety.
- You can have complications such as; infection, bleeding, and an incomplete abortion.
In this world, abortion is a very controversial subject due to religion, personal beliefs, and society. Multiple people believe abortion is wrong, while others don’t believe it’s wrong because it’s a last resort women run to when they choose not to have their child or simply just can’t.
Abortion can be done in different ways. Medication abortion involves taking pills, where surgical abortion involves medical procedures. According to the article “Medication Abortion Up to 70 Days,” posted online by The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists organization, when having an abortion there could be side effects such as bleeding which can last 14 to 21 days, cramping, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and drowsiness.
While having an abortion, there could be many complications like damaging the womb or cervix, uterine perforation, an incomplete abortion requiring an additional surgical abortion procedure, or maybe even death.
Some people might argue the fact that abortion is a safe way to get rid of a fetus. Junior Lorelai Beatriz says, “I believe abortion is safe since it’s been going for ages.” Another junior Juan Sanchez says, “I don’t think it’s unsafe if they are still allowing women to have abortions.”
Others see it differently. Roberta Jimenez, a freshman, says, “I believe abortion is safe, but I also believe it can cause severe damages to one’s body.” Celeste Amador, a senior, says, “I don’t think it’s safe to abort because later on in life women can become infertile.”
Abortion is a very controversial subject to many people, due to the fact some people might not agree with killing a fetus. But others might not view it as such a bad thing. Senior Gianna Diaz says, “I believe abortion should be allowed because as a female you’re very judged. People don’t understand that. We should have the right to choose what we want to do with our bodies without being judged.”
Lorena Ramirez says, “Many people don’t understand the fact that we are women and should be allowed to have a say on our own bodies and no one should come in between that.”
Another senior, Brianna Herrera, is in between believing abortion is right and wrong. She says, “You never know a situation that might have a little girl getting sexually abused. She shouldn’t be obligated to have the baby if she doesn’t want to. But I don’t think it should be legal if you get pregnant within your own consent.” Miguel Pilar, a sophomore, says, “I believe abortion is a very controversial subject because of people’s religion.”
People have many different perspectives on women who have abortions. Senior Gianna Diaz believes women who have abortions are women who are very strong and brave, due to the fact not every woman can go through an abortion physically or mentally.
Junior Derick Musgrove says, “I don’t necessarily believe women who have abortions are wrong or right. However, they are their own person and have the right to do what they like with their own body.”
Others don’t support abortion at all. Sophomore Rachel Miranda says, “I believe abortion shouldn’t be allowed. In my religion, it says it’s a sin to kill any human being even if it’s a fetus and hasn’t developed yet. It’s still a sin and wrong.” Junior Alondra Garcia says, “I don’t think it’s right to kill a baby who didn’t decide whether or not they wanted to be in this world.”
Abortion can have various effects on people’s lives whether it’s physically or mentally. Junior Giovanni Perdomo says, “I think mentally as someone progresses through life, they might regret their choice of having an abortion once they are stable in life.”
Sophomore Liah Vera says, “I believe after having an abortion it can cause some type of mental distress.”
Senior Brianna Herrera says, “I do believe abortion affects people’s lifestyle because they aren’t the same person. They become angry and depressed due to stuff they did in the past.”
